Description
The Klingons, having suffered a great loss of starships during the dominion war, set to work on replenishing their fleet. Starting with the easily produced Bird of Prey scout ship so that they could keep an eye on their borders while they built up their fleet.
Unknown to the United Federation of Planets, Klingon scientists were hard at work designing a new and improved class of ship. Using the design specifications for the K'Vort class Destroyer the scientists set to work on creating a ship that would tip the balance of power in their favor.
This new class of ship would have a better cloaking system to make for swifter strikes. A better weapons system to take out an enemy ship faster. And a better shielding system to withstand more of a pounding. What they ended up with was the K'Vort Mark II Toloth Refit.
This ship was a predator. Most of her crew amenaties were removed, cutting the ships compliment nearly in half. Crew quarters were resized smaller, down to the absolute bare minimum for an officer of the Klingon Empire to function effectivly. Her weapons systems were upgraded to acomidate the higher end disruptors used on Negh'Var warships. Her shielding system was upgraded using federation technology to acomidate the Regenerative shield system used on the Prometheus class starships. And a much improved engine system to better facilitate combat movments.
They also were forced to upgrade the onboard power systems. The ship now sports two matter/antimatter warp systems, one for the normal operation of the ship and engines. And one to power the vastly upgraded tactical systems.
The tactical and control systems were simplified greatly so that a crew of 800 could easily operate a ship originally designed for 1,500. With the new systems in place, it was figured that the ship would barly need an engineering crew as it wasn't expected that the ship would be in a fight long enough for damage to be sustained.
The IKV Toloth is the first destroyer to come from this new production line.
This is the plaque that is located on the bridge of the IKV Toloth. Designed using rosewood, inset with gold and silver for the designs. This is the lead ship in the Pheonix Squadron, as indicated by the image of the bird overlaying three triangles. Other ships in this squad only sport the bird on their plaques.
